Accident Reconstruction
Low Speed Impacts

Injury claims in low speed motor vehicle collisions remain an area of
concern to insurance
companies. A collision is considered to be a low speed impact when
there is little or no visible
damage to any of the vehicles involved in the incident. Sintra
Engineering's services in these
cases are directed at establishing the severity of the impact by
determining the change in velocity
of the vehicle or vehicles. This impact severity can be compared with
established injury
thresholds, thus providing an useful tool in assessing the merit of an
injury claim.
Research completed at Sintra Engineering, and recently published with the Society of Automotive Engineers, has further refined our understanding of the rear-impact injury threshold.
Other research that we have published includes a paper that outlines our method for determining delta-V from measured impact damage. It was conducted using our in-house testing facilities, which include a low speed crash barrier and the necessary instrumentation. These facilities are available should you need to have us conduct specific crash tests.
