Accident Reconstruction
Photogrammetry
Combining the sciences of geometry and physics, photogrammetry is a
measurement technology
that uses the two-dimensional world of photographs to provide a reliable
reconstruction of the
three-dimensional world. Reliable information about the location and
size of three-dimensional
objects is derived from depictions of those objects in photographs.
In the accident reconstruction context, the three-dimensional world of concern is usually the scene of an automobile collision. Information - which might include vehicle rest positions, debris location, and the length and position of roadway markings - that was not preserved during the original accident investigation can often be recovered from scene photos. Thus expertise in photogrammetry allows our engineers to gather incident information from a wide range of source materials.
